Configuring SFTP access for your virtual private server (powered by Ubuntu) can be tricky, if you have multiple accounts with different root directories. The following blog post discusses the best practices for doing this.

Directory Structures

Your root directory for all operations should be under /sftp/.


Decide on a name for your new parent group to create your users under.


Create your new user using the following commands.

Add your new user to the group that you created in the previous section.

Configuration SSH Daemon

Now, you are going to want to configure your SSH daemon so that users that login to your server through the SFTP server make use of the configurations specified.
